The exploration path, where you can enter the forest and immerse yourself in the deep green, has a good reputation, but if you do not take care of it, it will soon become rough, such as being blocked by fallen trees. This time, we plan to make maintenance mainly for the purpose of ensuring the ease and safety of the stairs directly below the shrine precincts. Please join us. Thank you for your corona measures.

Atagoyama Sakura Symposium
In 1918 (Taisho 7), 360 cherry trees were donated to Mt. Atago and became one of the famous cherry blossom spots in the city, but now there are 200 trees including those around Sakurazaka and Atagoyama Tourist Road and newly planted trees. There is only a shortage. Many of them are dying due to the obstruction of sunlight by the surrounding evergreen trees. It is known that there is a wild cherry tree, Tsukushi Yamazakura, in Kyushu and the Nansei Islands. It was found that about 20 species of this species survived on Mt. Atago, and the Atagoyama Sakura Fund has been established and conservation has begun. In November 2019, we preserved three trees (securing sunshine), and this year we are seeing wonderful flowers. We have postponed the rally due to the corona virus, but we will hold it with the following contents, so please come and join us.

Bamboo forest logging and conservation activities at Mt. Atago
— Would you like to move while bathing in the forest? — —
Currently, the bamboo grove that spreads on Mt. Atago has been left unattended for a long time, and as a result, it has become an obstacle to maintaining the diversity of vegetation, which is a characteristic of Satoyama. Now that the tick season has come to an end, we will work on the annual bamboo forest logging. Bamboo spreads on the rhizomes and stores nutrients, so new shoots emerge even after logging, and the regeneration of the bamboo forest is conspicuous. We aim to cut down those trees this term.
We hope that many people will participate in the nature restoration efforts of Mt. Atago.

Tree planting of early blooming cherry varieties
Early-blooming Kawazuzakura grows on the side of the road on the north slope of Mt. Atago. Although there are only two, many people are looking forward to seeing the Kawazuzakura that blooms in early spring prior to Somei Yoshino every year. As part of the "Sakura Project", the Mamorukai planned to plant new trees in the vicinity to increase the number of early-blooming cherry trees. The first initiative will be carried out on the following schedule. You are free to participate, so please come and join us. Details will be announced later.

Abragiku retransplantation
Atagoyama is worried that the number of yellow flowers, which are the protagonists of late autumn, is decreasing in recent years. For this reason, the Mamorukai revived this Abragiku on the northern slope of Mt. Atago, but due to a collapse on a part of this slope, Nishi Ward carried out a large-scale renovation work this summer. Unfortunately, all of the resurrected Abragiku have been cut down. Prior to this, the Guardian Association conducted a "rescue operation" to temporarily transplant Abragiku to another location. With the completion of this renovation work, we will work on re-transplanting the temporarily transplanted Abragiku. We look forward to your participation in this work.

Bamboo forest logging and conservation activities on Mt. Atago (6 times this term)
— Would you like to move while bathing in the forest? — —
Currently, the bamboo grove that spreads on Mt. Atago has been left unattended for a long time, and as a result, it has become an obstacle to maintaining the diversity of vegetation, which is a characteristic of Satoyama. The efforts up to the previous term have almost alleviated the problems of the view from the Atago Shrine precincts and the view from the sweets shop, but we need to make further efforts. Bamboo spreads on the rhizomes and stores nutrients, so it is very difficult to eliminate it because it sprouts new shoots even if it is cut.
Continuing from the previous term, we will work on bamboo forest logging and maintenance six times this term when there is no danger of ticks. We hope that many people will participate in the nature restoration efforts of Mt. Atago.

After being left unattended for a long time, Mt. Atago was extensively covered with bamboo, and a considerable amount of diverse forests disappeared. The bamboo forest logging efforts promoted by the Mamorukai have created a "vacant space" with a certain extent, and we will use it to plant trees for the regeneration of conventional trees and create forests.

Would you like to participate in the 1st Sakura Seedling Work?
We are now advocating the "Sakura Project," in which citizens work to plant cherry trees with the aim of reviving Mt. Atago, where cherry blossoms are in full bloom. At that time, we believe that the cherry tree to be planted is the horsetail wild cherry tree, which is endemic to this region, and is suitable for Mt. Atago. For that purpose, it is indispensable for many citizens to cooperate in raising seedlings of wild cherry tree, which takes about 3 years. This time, as the first step, we will work together to cut the branches of horsetail wild cherry into pots and pots. We look forward to your participation.
Date and time: Sunday, July 7th, 13: 30-15: 30
Place: Atago Public Hall (Atago 4-11-11)
Participation: Free, reservation required ( deadline July 2, to the contact information below,
To prepare materials)
Contact: 090-3304-0066 (Yamazaki)
We will prepare the materials. Bring pruning shears if you have one.
In addition, we are also looking for people who can not participate on the day but can cooperate in raising seedlings (3 years). I look forward to hearing from you.

In 1918 (Taisho 7), 360 cherry trees were donated to Mt. Atago and became one of the cherry blossom spots in the city, but now there are about 100 remaining around Sakurazaka and Atagoyama sightseeing roads. I'm sorry. Even so, the evergreen trees obstruct the sunshine, and the remaining cherry trees are in a difficult state of survival. In addition, a native species called Tsukushiyamazakura, which is a subspecies of wild cherry tree, has barely survived on Mt. Atago, but all of them are dying.
Learn about Sakura, who seems to know but doesn't know
It's a gathering. After learning, everyone in the future
Let's share wisdom about Sakura in Atago.

The Mamorukai has decided to open and maintain the "Atago no Mori Exploration Road" as a project for this year. The purpose of setting up the exploration path is to increase opportunities for many citizens to come into contact with the richness of Mt. Atago by breaking into the forest and feeling the greenery, and to have them discover and recognize its goodness and preciousness. is.
This time, the plan is to walk the planned course of the exploration path with explanations of plants. While observing the plants, we will conduct a field survey to determine the route and clarify the necessary issues (stairs installation, etc.).

Bamboo forest logging and conservation activities on Mt. Atago (conducted 5 times)
— Would you like to move while bathing in the forest? — —

(2018-2019)

This year, the 4th and 5th meetings will be held (March 16th and April 20th).

Currently, the bamboo grove that spreads on Mt. Atago has been left unattended for a long time, and as a result, it has become an obstacle to maintaining the diversity of vegetation, which is a characteristic of Satoyama. There is also the problem that it obstructs the view from the precincts of Atago Shrine and the view from the sweets shop. Bamboo spreads on the rhizomes and stores nutrients, so it is very difficult to eliminate it because it sprouts new shoots even if it is cut. Continuing from last year, this year we will work on bamboo forest logging and maintenance five times when there is no danger of ticks. I hope that many people will participate in the nature restoration efforts of Mt. Atago.
