Atago Forest Preservation Association

 In November 2014, the green space on the south side of Mt. Atago was suddenly cut down, and the land rich in plants such as Haze Nurude, Marubahagi, Higanzakura, and Gentiana thunbergii became soil in a month.

Atago is 68m high, but it is also a treasure trove of flora and fauna such as laurel forests, weasels, raccoon dogs, wild boars, and tiger beetles, which are over 100 years old, mainly in the Fukuoka City Special Green Area Conservation Area.

Atagoyama, along with West Park and South Park, is a place with abundant nature left in the center of the city, and is also a place of historical culture with old traditions such as Washio Shrine. However, the greenery has been lost year by year, and the former Atagoyama burial mound has been lost due to the construction of a large condominium.

Atago has an area of about 21 hectares (more than 10 m above sea level), but the special green area conservation area is only 4.5 hectares. The loss of nature due to large-scale land development will continue to be inevitable.

Atagoyama, which is close to the children living in the city and can get close to nature and history and culture, is a precious existence. We are required to curb the further regression of nature and the decline of historical culture so that we can hand over this environment of Mt. Atago to our descendants.

Therefore, this time we decided to establish the "Atago Forest and Greenery Conservation Society" with a view to 50 or 100 years ahead, with the aim of preserving the nature and historical culture of Mt. Atago. We ask for the participation and cooperation of many people.

Action plan

(1) We will create an expansion plan for the special green area conservation area of Mt. Atago and conserve nature.

・ We petition Fukuoka City for the expansion of preserved trees and special green space conservation areas.

・ We will proceed with a survey of the nature of Mt. Atago.

・ Mt. Atago will be a place for nature education for local children and adults. We will also hold a nature class.

(2) We will discover and pass down the history and culture of Mt. Atago.

・ We will make efforts for local children and adults to learn about the history and culture of Mt. Atago.

(4) Atagoyama Local residents will make efforts to create regional policies such as natural disaster prevention policies.

(5) We will establish the "Atagoyama Nature Forest Conservation Fund" to restore and conserve the nature of Mt. Atago.
