初詣

Sketch of the seasonal scenes at Atago-yama, including discontinued events.

On New Year's Day, many persons visited

Atago-shrine to worship and to see the first sunrize

Many people visit Atago Shrine for the first time. The worshipers form a long line along the approach to the shrine, which extends to the middle of Otokozaka every year. In addition, since the shrine precincts are on a hill that opens to the east, it is a great point to see the first sunrise of the year, which can be said to be one or two in the city. On New Year's Day, when the weather is nice, many people gather for the first sunrise of the year, despite the harsh cold weather.

The first monthly worship on Jan. 23rd/24th

                                  at Atago-shrine (Jakojako-uma)

Atago Shrine holds a monthly festival on the 23rd or 24th of every month. Visiting on this day is said to be a monthly visit. In the past, the "Fire Extinguishing Good Luck Festival" was held at the monthly festival at the beginning of the year. On this day, there is an event called "Shago Shago Horse" where local owners attach bells to their horses, decorate them beautifully, and climb the horse road (currently Onnazaka) from the foot of the horse to worship. I did.

白魚漁

"Shirouo-ryou (ice goby fishery)" signifies

                                                 the coming of spring

In the Muromi River, which flows at the foot of Mt. Atago, traditional beams (yana) for white fish (ice goby) fishing are hung in the spring. It is well known in Fukuoka as one of the specialties that herald spring. People prefer to eat small, clear fish and enjoy their throat.

By the way, white fish (Salangidae) are similar not only in shape but also in cooking method, so it seems that there are many mistakes, but Shirouo is a fish of the Perciformes family, which is also displayed as "bare fish". Is a fish of the order Salangidae (formerly Perciformes). A completely different thing. The whole ice goby can be seen through, but the ice goby has a brown skeleton. Naturally, it is completely different from Shirasu.
