Gray heron
Gray heron. Pelecaniformes Heronidae Great Heron. Japan's largest heron with a total length of around 95 cm. The upper surface is bluish gray, which is the origin of the name. In the old days, it was also called Mitosagi. The neck and underside are white with black vertical stripes on the chest. There are vertical black stripes behind the eyes. There are crests and decorative wings on the chest, which are short and slightly smaller for females. The beak and hind limbs are usually yellow and the tip of the eye is yellowish green, but it turns pink during the breeding season. It is a fairly aggressive bird, stealing prey from other birds. They usually live alone or in small groups, but during the breeding season (spring), they gather in groups at the breeding ground (colony), and females build nests on the trees with twigs collected by males.
Blue rock thrush
Rocky shore. Passerine Blue Rock Thrush. It is widely distributed from the Mediterranean to the Eurasian continent. Originally, as the name suggests, it lived on rocky shores or coastal cliffs, but recently it has expanded into urban areas. Also, the Japanese name has a bulbul, and the appearance is similar to that of a bulbul, but it is a different species. The total length is about 23 cm. The image is male and female is inconspicuous taupe. He has a pretty beautiful voice, but he is also good at squeaking. This image was taken on the banks of the Muromi River at the foot of Mt. Atago.

Although it is about 14 cm long, it has a long tail and is small, making it the second smallest bird in Japan. One of the features is that the beak is small. Fly in a flock of a few to a dozen or so while groaning with Tsururyu (Jururi, Jururi?) Or Tsizzi. It is talked about on the net that it is cute that the chicks immediately after leaving the nest line up in a dumpling shape on the branch.
Pintail
Northern pintail. Waterfowl, Anatidae. The name comes from the fact that the two male tail feathers are long. A winter bird that flies all over Japan for wintering. Taken at the mouth of the Muromi River at the foot of Mt. Atago. The species of ducks can be easily classified by paying attention to the (male) head / neck pattern and color scheme. The color and pattern of the beak are also the key to classification.
Turtledove
Turtle dove. Columbiformes Columbidae Streptopelia. Also known as turtle dove. The total length is about 33 cm. Tweet with Deadly Poppo and Deadly Poppo. The name given because the pattern resembles a pheasant. The body is grape-colored with red eyes, the wings have black and reddish-brown scales, and the neck has blue-white horizontal stripes and a unique beauty.
Kogera
Japanese pygmy woodpecker. Piciformes Woodpecker family Dendrocopos. Guy, squeal and interact with your partner and family. It is a territorial claim to squeak. Omnivore. Tap the tree and search for insects (drumming). With a body length of about 15 cm, it is the smallest woodpecker in Japan. Males have red spots on the back of their head, but they are usually barely visible, making it difficult to distinguish between males and females. A white band pattern extends from the corners of the eyes and the mouth. Although not visible in this image, the dorsal side is dark brown with white spots and appears to be a striped pattern with repeated black and white.

Little egret
Little egret. Ciconiiformes Heronidae Egrets genus. Total length 60 cm. Because the name is the smallest of the egrets. The feather color is white throughout. The characteristic of Little Egret is that the toes are yellow, the summer feathers have two crests, and the decorative feathers on the back are rolled up. During the breeding season, the toes and tips of the eyes turn red.
