Old coastal levees

Currently, the reclaimed land of Hakata Bay spreads to the north of Mt. Atago in Fukuoka and is a residential area (Atagohama, Toyohama, etc.), but in the past, the sea was approaching just to the foot of Mt. Atago. The reclamation began with the expansion of the site of the Meinohama Coal Mine, and the current Toyohama was lined with Mt. It was said that he was able to pass in front only at low tide. The current Atagohama was reclaimed in the 1980s, but Marina Street was built on the sea side along the embankment on the coastline before that. The remnants of the coastal levees still remain along Marina Street. This coastal levee was built in the early 1950s.
