A swaying tree. Also known as Sidezakura. Rosaceae Amelanchier asiatica. Deciduous tree with a height of 5 to 10 m. The flowering season is from April to May. It is said that the name comes from the fact that the appearance of white flowers gathering at the tip of a branch and blooming looks like a sword.
It grows on the mountain slope above the parking lot of Otojiro Inari Shrine. The American Amelanchier asiatica, which resembles this Amelanchier asiatica, is a cultivar that produces dark red fruits and is used for jams and the like. Only the flowers bloom before the leaves come out, so it can be distinguished from Amelanchier asiatica.
