Kaede, or a tree or leaf. An evergreen tree of the genus Daphniphyllaceae. The old name is Yuzuruha. Dioecious. The petiole is red (some trees are not red. Aojiku Yuzuriha). After the young leaves open in early summer, the old leaves fall like they give up, so this name is used. Used as a New Year's decoration. Black fruits and leaves are also poisonous, and livestock can accidentally eat and die. It is planted as a fire protection tree. A similar species is Himeyuzuriha, but the leaves are longer and thinner than Yuzuriha, and the mesh pattern on the back of the leaves is conspicuous.
