Wild cherry blossoms. Deciduous tree of the genus Cerasus in the family Rosaceae. Endemic to Japan. Flowers and young leaves come out at the same time. There are also 10 to 11 native species that are collectively called wild cherry blossoms.
The difference from Somei Yoshino is that the leaves and flowers are at the same time. The young leaves are reddish brown, which is different from the green or yellowish brown horsetail.
開花期以外でもヤマザクラとソメイヨシノとを区別できるのが、葉柄についている小さな豆粒のような蜜腺の位置。ソメイヨシノの蜜腺は葉の根もとについているが、ヤマザクラの蜜腺は葉とは離れた位置についている。
