Yabu camellia. Theaceae Camellia genus. Evergreen small tree. Widely distributed on Mt. Atago. Red flowers can be seen here and there from late winter to early spring. A typical tree in the laurel forest.
Collect camellia oil from seeds. It has been widely used for lighting, medicine, makeup and food. The sweets shop "Bintsukiya" used to be a store that sells Bintsuke oil, which is used for hair conditioning of Japanese hair. Atagoyama at that time was full of camellias.
