The fruit of Castanopsis sieboldii (acorn) is long and slender, and it is effective in distinguishing it from the round fruit of Japanese Chinquapin. The shell dough (so-called hakama) is unique and can be clearly distinguished from other acorns. In the unripe fruit, the acorn covers the fruit, and when ripe, the acorn splits into three and the fruit appears. The ripe fruit is a glossy black color. The white cotyledons in the fruit are eaten raw and are slightly sweet. Roasting increases the sweetness. The difficulty is that it is small.
