An evergreen tree of the genus Neolitsea in the family Lauraceae. Also known as Shirotab, Tamagaya. Dioecious. Distributed from Miyagi / Yamagata prefecture to Okinawa. The flowering season is autumn, and many yellow-brown florets are attached.
Sprout of Neolitsea sericea. The young leaves of Neolitsea sericea hang down from the tips of the branches and grow together. Its color is tan, conspicuous and covered with hair.
Fruit of Shirodamo (female strain). The 12-15 mm oval fruits ripen and turn red in the fall, one year after flowering. The seeds inside are spherical with a size of about 8 mm, and are used as a material for candles after oil extraction.
Neolitsea sericea leaf (back). The back of the leaves of Neolitsea sericea is white and turns green when rubbed, replacing postcards.
