Anisatum. An evergreen tree of the genus Illicium in the family Schisandraceae. Also known as Buddha front grass, Shikibi. Also known as the "Mako no Ki". It is toxic and has caused fatal accidents, and in fact it is designated as a deleterious substance under the "Poisonous and Deleterious Substances Control Law" (the same designation order). The fruit is an octagon used in Chinese food, etc.  Be careful as it is very similar to (star anise fruit).
Light yellow flowers bloom in spring, and the scent of scent is strong, but the stems, leaves, and fruits also have scents, and are used for incense sticks. Since it is an indispensable tree for Buddhist affairs, it is often found in temples, and on Mt. Atago, it is planted in the back of the main hall of Kannondenji Temple.
