Generally used as a general term for the genus Forsythia suspensa in the family Oleaceae, but in a narrow sense it is a standard Japanese name that refers to the scientific name Forsythia suspensa. Deciduous shrubs Hardwoods. Also known as Forsythia sussifolia (Forsythia susilience), Itachihaze (old name). It is widely used as a cultivar. Native to China. There are also Yamatorengyo and Shodoshimarenkyo, which are native to Japan, but they are not used due to the small number of flowers.
Forsythia flowers. Many bloom densely from March to April, after which green leaves sprout. When in full bloom, the entire tree may turn flashy yellow, and its English name is Golden Bells. The leaves then change to dark green, dull yellow-green, and purple, and fall in the fall.
