Osteopathic tree or elder. A deciduous small tree of the genus Sambucus in the family Moschatel. The name of the osteopathic tree comes from the fact that the trunk and branches are decocted and boiled down as a compress for fracture treatment. The old name Miyatsukogi (wooden construction).
It grows on the side of the road that turns the first curve of the "Atagoyama Tourist Road" that rises from the north of Mt. Atago. At the position where Kawazuzakura is lined up.
Sambucus sieboldii flower. The flowering season is from April to May, and it smells faintly.
Sambucus sieboldii. Still immature stage. The red ripe fruit is used as an ingredient in fruit wine. Young leaves are delicious when eaten as edible wild plants or tempura, but there are rare people who have diarrhea. The leaves are used as diuretics and hot compresses for bruising.
