Wax-leaf or fox. An evergreen small tree of the genus Ligustrum in the family Oleaceae. Also known as Tamatsubaki. Widely distributed south of central Japan. The name was given because the ripe and blackened fruit resembles rat droppings and looks like ilex. It is resistant to adverse environments and is often planted at the base of roadside trees. It is often used as a crude drug, and is used for tonicity, anti-aging, and prevention of vision loss.
Mouse mochi flower. White flowers bloom together at the tip of the branch in early summer. There is a slight offensive odor.
ネズミモチの未熟実。秋になると、緑〜黄緑の実がなる。晩秋には熟してネズミの糞のような黒い実となる。
