Aphananthe aspera, Aphananthe aspera, Pu Shu. It is a deciduous tree of the genus Aphananthe aspera and is distributed in East Asia. Also known as Muku, Mukuenoki (because it resembles Enoki). Monoecious. The leaves alternate and bristles grow on the surface to replace the file. The flowering season is from April to May, and small pale green flowers grow at the base of the leaves. When the flowers are finished, round green fruits with a diameter of about 10 mm are produced.
Aphananthe aspera fruit. When ripe, it turns black-purple, sweet and delicious. Birds such as starlings gather, eat and scatter seeds, and the distribution spreads.
Aphananthe aspera bark. The bark of the trunk of young trees is smooth and light taupe, but in old trees the bark has vertical streaks, and in older trees the bark peels off.
Buttress root of Mukunoki. The tree height reaches 20m, and buttress roots develop at the roots. It can be seen near the southern end of "Atago no Mori Exploration Road" and beyond "Yabunikei no Mori".
