Sugi or Masaki. An evergreen shrub of the genus Euonymus in the family Euonymus. Distributed from southern Hokkaido to near the coast of Okinawa. The flowering season is from June to July, and small yellow-green flowers that are inconspicuous bloom. When the fruits ripen in autumn, the peels split into four and orange-red seeds appear.

The leaves are oval, thick, shiny and have numerous shallow serrations. Many of the tips of the leaves are sharp. Often used for hedges.
