Tree of oak, tree of yellow oak. A deciduous small tree of the genus Rhus in the family Rhus. Dioecious. Also known as Ryukyuhaze, Rounoki, Tohaze. It is distinguished from the native species of poison ivy by the absence of hair on the front and back of the leaves. It was imported from the Ryukyu Kingdom as a raw material for Japan wax.
Hazenoki fruit. Japan wax obtained by pressing steamed fruits is used as a raw material for candles, crayons, ointments, and soaps. During the Edo period, it was recommended and spread by various clan in western Japan. It was also used as a salvage crop such as goby rice cake.
