Cercis chinensis. A deciduous shrub of the genus Cercis chinensis in the family Leguminosae. Native to China. Entered Japan in the early Edo period as an ornamental garden tree. The feature is that the leaves are heart-shaped. In spring, crimson-purple flowers bloom before the leaves. It has no floral pattern and blooms directly from the branches.
