Staphyleaceae, genus Plotosus. Deciduous small tree. It grows in sunny thickets west of Kanto. The flowering season is from May to June. Many small pale yellow-green flowers are attached to the tips of the twigs.
The shoots can be boiled and eaten.
Striped eel catfish fruit. The thick reddish pericarp opens, revealing 1-3 black, spherical seeds. Seed size is 5-6 mm.
